  • Edmonton Folk Music Festival

Edmonton Folk Music Festival coolest place to be in August Vibrant ... dramatic ... colourful ... and friendly. When describing the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, musicians and patrons are unanimous. This year’s edition promises to be all that and more for the Edmontonians, visitors and volunteers who will claim their patch of grass on the hill at Gallagher Park to listen and move to the beat of more than 60 music-makers from the four corners of the globe. Set in the lush river valley with the city skyline as its backdrop, the festival is an annual gathering that has come to epitomize Edmonton as a "festival city." This is a family event whether you come to listen to music, reconnect with old friends, or join the army of 2,200 volunteers who keep the festival running as the world class event it has become since it was started in 1980. Experience this year was a bummer.

I was looking forward to seeing Sinead O'Connor, I bought the weekend pass only because the day she was performing was sold out. Then she cancelled. I didn't go until the last day I thought I would make the $190. I spent worthwhile. While attending the folk music festival I was approached by the festival police that my lawnchair was illegal because it was too big. So i folded up my chair, walked up the hill to my vehicle parked far aways beacause there was no parking!!! I felt very heavy hearted about my experience as this was the first time I had been to the folk festival since I was a child(30 years). This will also be the last time I consider ever going again.

LOVE Folk Fest!

I was sad and disappointed that Sinead O'Connor but we still enjoyed ourselves completely. The small stage stuff is always our favourite part of folk fest but Bear's Den managed to rock the main stage!
